Rep. Vargas Serves as Co-Chair of the 64th Annual National Prayer Breakfast
Washington, DC (February 4, 2016) - Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) co-hosted the National Prayer Breakfast this morning alongside Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL-4). Rep. Vargas welcomed over 3,400 guests at the Washington Hilton from 130 countries and 50 states.
“My faith has guided me along a wonderful path in life,” said Rep. Vargas. “It’s steered me through my academic and professional career and it has blessed me with the encouragement to build a loving family. This breakfast serves as a forum where leaders from all walks of life share their personal experiences with their faith. It allows us to see each other in a different light and fosters mutual respect.”
The co-chairs were joined by President Obama and the First Lady, Michelle Obama, Senator Tim Kaine, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Julian Castro, musical performer, Andrea Bocelli, and other guests at the head table.
“This tradition has, for decades, enabled Members of Congress to meet in a non-partisan way and strengthen relationships through prayer and thanksgiving,” said Rep. Vargas. “I’m incredibly honored to have co-chaired this event and shared the experience with Rep. Aderholt. I will cherish these memories for the rest of my life.”
The National Prayer Breakfast is an event held in Washington, DC where political, community and business leaders come together to build meaningful relationships. The annual event has attracted influencers from a variety of industries it began in 1953.

Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire US/Mexico border. Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his second term in Congress. He represented the 40th California State Senate District from 2010-2012, the 79th California State Assembly District from 2000 – 2006 and served on the San Diego City Council from 1993 – 2000.
